Thane Zilla Parishad elections: Counting underway, Shiv Sena ahead

THANE: The counting of votes for the 53 seats of Thane Zila parishad and 106 seats of five Gram Panchayats is underway in Thane. The fight is between the Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP.The counting will decide the fate of 151 candidates across parties contesting polls on 53 seats of Zila parishad. The 53 seats includes Bhiwandi (21 seats), Shahapur (14), Murbad (8), Kalyan (6) and Ambernath (4).According to fresh the trends, Shiv Sena has grabbed 17 seats in the Thane Zila Parishad election, BJP seven seats, NCP two and Congress one.The counting trends shows that in Ambernath, BJP MLA Kishan Kathore suffered major setback as his two supporters lost against Shiv Sena candidate. The situation was overall largely peaceful. In Kalyan taluka, there's a tough fight between between Shiv Sena and BJP.The Shiv Sena has reportedly tied up with NCP at several local levels apparently to cut down the BJP while the latter tied up with the Shramjeevi Sanghatna and the RPI at few seats.Approximately 65 per cent of the total 7.03 lakh voters from the rural belts of Thane district cast their votes on Wednesday for the Thane Zilla Parishad polls The proceedings went on smoothly barring a few minor skirmishes at a few spots, including near one of the polling booths in Bhiwandi between activists of two opposite parties..
