Kerala to fight obesity using nutrition mission

Summary:

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The health department has added reduction in obesity and encouraging breastfeeding as additional targets for the state under centre’s National Nutrition Mission (NNM) that is being implemented on pilot basis in four districts. Others include food safety commissioner, executive director of Kudumbashree, civil supplies commissioner and directors of all departments concerned. It also includes secretaries of finance, WCD, LSG, food and civil supplies, general education, ST/ST development, Ayush, water resources, agri and animal husbandry departments. According to the instruction by the Centre, WCD department, health and rural development departments should jointly implement these schemes in a unified manner.Beneficiaries will be mapped through anganwadis. Weights will be recorded every month and the height will be recorded every three months in the software application to track underweight and kids with stunted growth..
