Heavy showers in Kerala till Thursday

Summary:

Kerala witnessed heavy rain due to the presence of an offshore trough from Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast. Heavy rain in nearby hilly districts is causing flood in Pamba and Achencoil rivers, affecting water transport. Over the past 24 hours, heavy rain was recorded in Idukki (51.38mm), Thodupuzha (53.3mm), Devikulam (68.2mm), Idukki (56.8mm), Peermade (44mm) and Udumbanchola (34.6mm). THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a brief lull, monsoon intensified over Kerala with India Meteorological department (IMD) forecasting heavy rain in all districts till Thursday, except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, where moderate rainfall is expected.Two women were killed and 11 others injured in Alappuzha, Kannur and Kozhikode in separate incidents. Water-level rose by nearly two feet in Idukki dam to 2367.62 ft and one ft in Mullaperiyar dam to 127.5 ft.(With inputs from Kozhikode, Alappuzha and Idukki).
