Five-member panel to mull IPS association restructuring

Thiruvananthapuram | Monday | 16th July, 2018

Summary:

Thiruvananthapuram: The IPS association that met here on Monday constituted a five-member committee to study and report whether the existing structure of the association needs any change. The association, which is the Kerala chapter of the national association of IPS officers, does not have a formal registration. The association had not properly defended the IPS officers who had come under fire in the recent camp followers issue, they feel. It is learnt that while a section is for making the association ‘formal’ with elected office bearers, a majority feels that its present structure should not be altered. “If an officer of a lower rank is elected as an office bearer, it will be difficult for him to man the association where his senior officers are present. Also, if the IPS officers themselves set such a precedence, how can we ask other non-IPS officers not to indulge in organizational activities,” said one officer. It is learnt that a section of officers under DGP Tomin J Thachankary are for making the association strong by giving it a formal structure..
