Summary:

Thiruvananthapuram: Seven months after the civic body finalized the proposal to supply non-recyclable solid waste to cement kilns for producing refuse-derived fuel, the health wing is set to invite tenders. This would come handy while finalizing tenders for the project, the official said. The model is successfully followed at Madukkarai town in Coimbatore, according to CPCB. Co-processing refers to the use of waste materials in industrial processes as alternative fuels or raw material (AFR) to recover energy and material from them. The city corporation had presented the model before state government and received a green signal, the officials said. Co-processing is regarded as an environmental-friendly and sustainable method of waste disposal as compared to landfilling and incineration, because of reduced emissions and no residue after the treatment..
