Thiruvananthapuram: The public works department has invited tender for the construction of a temporary bridge parallel to the Vallakkadavu Bridge, which is in a dilapidated condition.The construction is planned ahead of the proposed demolition of the Vallakkadavu bridge for reconstruction. “The temporary bridge could allow transportation of vehicles, including buses. However, local pople have been objecting to ban on heavy vehicles on the bridge as it was the main connectivity to places such as Beemapally, Valiyathura, domestic airport etc. The temporary bridge would be constructed in such a way to allow plying of heavy vehicles.The PWD plans to complete construction of the temporary bridge in around three months after completing tender formalities. They also launched a protest demanding PWD to construct an alternate bridge before imposing a ban.Meanwhile, the PWD is preparing the design for the new bridge at Vallakkadavu..
