Sabarimala row: System in place to monitor pilgrims on forest routes

The department has also set up pilgrim facilitation centres along the routes.There are four facilitation centres that provide free drinking water to the pilgrims along the 12km Sathram-Pandithavalam stretch. There are police outposts at the entry and exit points on these routes.Earlier, there was no system in place to monitor the pilgrims taking these routes. SANNIDHANAM: As part of the increased security measures in Sabarimala , the police and forests and wildlife departments have implemented a new system for monitoring the pilgrims who take the traditional forest routes to reach Sannidhanam.Police have introduced a coupon system in both the forest routes which pass through the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Pilgrims are being given coupons at the entry points, which they are required to produce at the exits. In the 22 days from November 17 to December 8, only 4,639 have used the Sathram-Pandithavalam route..
