Special cyber team set up to curb child sex abuse

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state police have constituted a special team to counter rising online activities related to child sexual abuse . The team has been named Counter Child Sexual Exploitation team. Inspector General ( Thiruvananthapuram ) Manoj Abraham, who is also the nodal officer of Cyberdome, will lead the team.The team's activities will be supervised by IG (crime) S Sreejith, who is the nodal officer of child protection activities of the state police. The team also has the responsibility of conducting awareness programmes. The team would have 13 members, including Malappuram district police chief Pratheesh Kumar, government railway police superintendent Merin Joseph, special branch DSP Mohammed Shafi and Police Training College vice-principal A V Sunil Kumar.According to a statement issued here on Friday by the state police chief, the major duties of the team include setting up a digital platform to report crimes perpetrated against children in the cyberspace, conduct patrolling in cyber world using digital tools to find out illegal activities, take sufficient steps to stop such activities and to initiate legal action against offenders..
