Summary:

“Money is required for this, and naturally it will have to be met from government funds. Incidentally, NSS is not part of the campaign. The campaign is aimed at heralding the renaissance values of the state. It will be coordinated by the woman and child department. The government cannot misappropriate funds allocated through the annual budget,” he said.Besides, using government fund for programmes of any particular religious community is in violation of Article 27 of the Indian Constitution, Chennithala said. The Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government has announced to form ‘Women’s Wall’ from Kasaragod to Thiruvanathapuram on January 1, along with more than Hindu caste organizations. Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has written again to the state chief secretary demanding a complete withdrawal of the government circular that facilitates the use of government money and machinery for organizing the ‘Women’s Wall’.“Though the chief secretary, after receiving a letter from me sent a few days ago, revised the circular by striking off the portion recommending finance department to give approval for government fund, chances are still there for government money getting expended through other channels,” said Chennithala in a statement released after writing to the chief secretary on Sunday. So, instead of a partial withdrawal (the amendment cancelling directive to finance department), the circular should be revoked in its entirety, he demanded.Chennithala’s letter pointed out that the responsibility for preparation and distribution of materials required for the Women’s Wall campaign was still with the women and child development department..
