The village, which aims at popularising arts and crafts and improving the livelihood of artists and artisans from the state, is expected to draw scores of tourists to Vellar, a rocky hamlet near Kovalam. A top official with the Tourism Department said that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the Arts and Crafts Village tentatively on March 10. The state government had opened the Arts and Crafts Village at Vellar back in 2011 but due to poor management, the village failed to reap success. The authorities also plan a research and development campus on the village premises to modernise traditional crafts and popularise products..
