Legend, Padmashree Awadee Carnatic vocalist Parassala B Ponnammal Passed Away at 96

Saddened by the demise of Legendry, Carnatic musician,  Padmashree awardee, Parassala B Ponnammal in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday due to age-related ailments.

She aged 96.

A recipient of many honors including the Padma Shri in 2017, Ponnammal performed across the world and trained singers like KS Chitra and Omanakutty Amma during her eight-decade-long career.

Some of her best renditions include compositions of Irayamman Thampi and KC Kesava Pillai.

Ponnammal passed away in Thiruvananthapuram today at 96.

Teacher & performer, in 2006 she became the 1st woman in 300 years of tradition to sing at the famed Navaratri Celebrations of the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple.
