Six-day tuberculosis detection drive begins in Trichy district

TRICHY: Trichy district collector K Rajamani on Monday flagged off a mobile van as part of a campaign to detect tuberculosis cases and to create TB awareness. The vehicle will cover one block each day.The campaign will mainly focus on areas which have high prevalence of multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), vulnerable regions and remote areas.Dean of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital Dr G Anitha and deputy director of medical services, TB control, Dr S Savithri were present when the van was flagged off. The campaign is carried out as part of the country’s target to eliminate TB by 2025.The van is equipped with Cartridge-based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test ( CBNAAT ) machine to detect TB cases.The van will cover Tharanallur, Chinnasamy Nagar, EB Road and Jailpettai by Monday evening.In the next five days, it will be visiting five major blocks -- Manapparai, Thiruverumbur, Thuraiyur, Manachanallur (including Musiri) and Lalgudi (including Pullambadi)..
