Trichy: As part of a ritual offering, Sri Ranganathasamy temple authorities have carried ‘holy’ gifts to Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati to mark the annual celebration of Anivara Ashtanam falling on Tuesday.The holy gifts included, among other things, clothes of Sri Venkatachalapathy, Sri Alamelu Mangai Thaayar, fruits and garlands. Though the tradition has not been followed for some years, it resumed nearly 15 years ago,” he said. Srirangam temple joint commissioner P Jayaraman said that all necessary arrangements had been made for the smooth conduct of ritual.“This is a centuries-old tradition, done as a gratitude for Tirupati temple where the idol of deity Namperumal was provided custody for 40 years during the invasions in the 13th century..
