‘Application-oriented research which benefits society is need of the hour’

It has been implementing student’s projects since 1993 to promote research among engineering colleges. Trichy: A research should be application-oriented and the outcome should benefit the society, said member secretary of Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai, R Srinivasan.He was speaking at the state-level students’ project seminar-cum-exhibition at the National College Trichy (NCT) on Friday. Apart from this, the council will bring out a list of application-oriented projects displayed at the exhibition which could be funded by the council.Such programmes will motivate not only students, but also teachers towards entrepreneurship and displaying their potential. He said that the lack of application-oriented research is the primary reason for many research works in the country for not getting due recognition.Outcome of basic research in academic institutions should be for societal development and enhancement of technology.The state council is an autonomous body which aids development in the science and technology sector. The council is set to support 500 projects funded by department of science and technology this year, he said.Water, energy, environment and food safety are the key areas for research promoted by the council..
