Summary:

Trichy: Siddha practitioners have appealed to the government to come up with a promotional structure for AYUSH practitioners similar to that of the allopathy doctors. Government should come up with strict measures to address the issue of quackery in siddha more seriously,” Trichy district Siddha medical officer, S Kamaraj told TOI. “We start off as assistant medical officers and getting promotions is also hard because there are only 36 promotional posts – 22 district siddha medical officers and 14 medical officers – filled on vacancy basis. “While allopathy doctors have four promotions – after eight, 15, 17 and 20 years of service respectively, Siddha practitioners have only two possible promotions,” said B Thamizhkkani, state secretary of Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical Officers’ Association. He added that since the promotional structure for Siddha practitioners is not time-bound, most of them retire even without getting promotions. They also claimed that the issue of quackery in siddha is not addressed as much as it is done in allopathy.A resolution regarding the issue was passed during the annual state general body meeting of Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical Officers’ Association held here on Sunday.Siddha practitioners claimed that it was high time that the government address the disparity of promotional structure for AYUSH practitioners..
