TRICHY: Forest officials on Monday imposed a total fine of Rs 1 lakh on five men for trespassing into the Upper Anaicut reserve forest in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu for poaching wild animals.The accused have been identified as S Chandrasekar, 21, N Gopalakrishnan, 34, A Nagarajan, 23, N Karthijeyan, 27, and T Ponnusamy, 32, all hailing from Karur.Following a tipoff, district forest officer (DFO) D Sujatha alerted a team of forest personnel about unauthorised entry of the men into the reserve forest.The team, headed by Trichy range officer, nabbed the five men and seized a fishing net and spears from them.The DFO told TOI that a fine of Rs 20,000 was imposed on each of them under Section 21 of the Forest Act 1882 and sections of the Wild Life Protection Act 1972 for entering the reserve forest to poach.“There is a considerable number of wild boars in the forest..
