Samuthaya valaikappu: It was raining gifts for 2,000 expectant mothers in Trichy district

TRICHY: It turned out to be a memorable day for around 2,000 expectant mothers who participated at ‘samuthaya valaikappu’ (community baby shower) events conducted in panchayat unions across Trichy district on Friday.The events were conducted by the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) along with the district administration.Expectant mothers from all religions received several gifts , including bangles, flowers and fruits.Valaikappu is considered an important tradition for expectant mothers – held predominantly during the seventh month of pregnancy – as the clinking sound of bangles is said to relieve the stress of a pregnant woman and bring joy to the baby in her womb.District collector K Rajamani inaugurated the event at KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College, and 502 expectant mothers participated.The collector spoke about various schemes for expectant mothers..
