Trichy: Expressing concern over the low doctor-to-patient ratio in the public health sector, governor Banwarilal Purohit has called for more number of trained doctors to work in the sector to reduce the deficit.“An area of concern is the low percentage of doctors in the public health sector. The governor insisted on a coordinated effort of the medical professionals for ensuring better service to the patients.“The delivery of modern health care depends on the groups of trained professionals and para professionals coming together to form interdisciplinary teams. Ayushman Bharat - National Health Protection Mission - will cover 50 crore people and provide health cover for Rs 5 lakh a family per year. The governor was, however, full of praise for Tamil Nadu for maintaining the ratio almost equal to world average.“For 125 crore people, the availability of doctors is 1:1,250. According to National Health Profile 2017, there is a need to raise the number of trained doctors and motivate them to serve in rural areas as well as public health sector,” he said.He was delivering a speech at the graduation day of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College and Hospital in Perambalur on Wednesday.“The medical training provided to rural populations in colleges such as these will help greater number of them to work in the public health sector and in the rural areas,” he said..
