Walking track to be developed near Kulimikkarai road

A similar measure has commenced on Kulimikkarai road stretch.“We have planned to strengthen the banks by raising retaining walls and fencing to ensure the safety of visitors along the 238m stretch on Kulimikkarai road. The waste was disposed using a vehicle provided by the Trichy Corporation.Organisers said a walking track would be developed along the cleared stretch.The canal passing through the city bears rampant pollution. The citizen group has been involved in reviving the Uyyakondan canal since January this year.“People should come forward to do social works for keeping their vicinity clean. A canal like the Uyyakondan needs revival through public efforts,” said Ebrahim Naik, 96, a World War II veteran participating in the drive.The CFU had earlier cleared a stretch along the other bank of Uyyakondan opposite to the district court and developed a walking track with lighting. LED lights have already been provided by the civic body,” an organiser from the citizen group added.Locals from various walks of life, including entrepreneurs and medical professionals have financially supported the revival drive..
