Tourists charged double for parking at Thiruvanaikoil temple

Trichy: Pilgrims and tourists from various parts of the country visiting Arulmigu Jambukeswarar temple in Thiruvanaikoil often have complaints regarding the parking fees collected near the temple. “Temple management will seek an explanation from the contractor over the fleecing complaints as alleged by devotees. The visitors alleged that a private contractor, who appoints collectors to man temple parking and collect fees, has been asking for double the amount of the prescribed parking fee by the temple management.Worshipped as an embodiment of the element water, the Jambukeswarar temple complex sprawling for 19 acres is managed by the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department. More boards mentioning the actual parking fee will be put up near the entry points,” G Jayapriya, assistant commissioner, HR&CE told TOI.Temple management added that boards mentioning prescribed parking fee were removed during the ongoing temple renovation works and will be reinstated soon. Situated in a few kilometre distance from Sri Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangam, Thiruvanaikoil on an average attracts around 500-1,000 pilgrims in a day.Though there is no full-fledged space and facility provided for parking cars and vans, a contractor entrusted by temple management has been appointing operators for collecting parking fee..
