Trichy | Monday | 12th November, 2018

Summary:

Following the protest, railway officials had taken steps to open the gate.“We did not agitate for any personal reasons but for the cause of the general public. Hence, the farmers headed by Ayyakannu staged a protest demanding that the gate be opened. But all the 98 farmers have been penalised. Subsequently, Trichy divisional railway manager (DRM) P Uday Kumar Reddy had ordered the closure of the level crossing gate with immediate effect.Since hundreds of residents including farmers had been using the level crossing to reach their destinations, the closure had come as a shocker for them. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the revenue officials ‘begging’ them to provide Rs 3,000 each to 98 farmers as they had to remit the same as penalty before the Lalgudi magistrate court. It may be recalled that Lalgudi police had registered a case against the farmers for protesting for the opening of the gate..
