2 ‘depressed farmers’ die of cardiac arrest

Trichy: Two farmers, allegedly depressed over the loss of their livelihood in cyclone Gaja, died of cardiac arrest in Tiruvarur district on Saturday. The other victim was Selvaraj, 55, a native of Edamelaiyur village near Mannargudi, who cultivated samba paddy on 5 acres. He was rushed to the Thiruthuraipoondi government hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. A stunned Selvaraj developed chest pain on November 22 and was rushed to the Thanjavur government medical college hospital where he died on Saturday. Sources said that one of the the victims, Veera Ravi, 52, of Kurumbal village in Thiruthuraipoondi, had raised 40 coconut trees of which 20 were uprooted.Relatives said that Veera Ravi was visibly upset over the loss..
