Kumbabhishekam after 18 years attracts huge crowd

Trichy: A large number of devotees thronged Sri Jambukeswarar Akilandeswari temple at Thiruvanaikoil in Trichy on Sunday to witness the auspicious mahakumbabhishekam (consecration) festival, which is happening after 18 years.Elaborate security measures have been in place in order to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival.The festival has two parts; the first phase was conducted on Sunday, in which the kumbabhishekam was held for all the ‘Parivaara Moorthis’ (sub-shrines) of the temple.The second phase for Sri Jambukeswarar and Sri Akilandeswari shrines will be organised on December 12.As a part of the festival, special puja was conducted at 6am and later, ‘maha kumbabhishekam’ was held in all the sub-shrines at 8am.The auspicious event was held under the presence of Kanchi Sankaracharya Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal.Minister for tourism Vellamandi N Natarajan and minister for backward classes S Valarmathi also took part in the festival..
