Two jumbos begin journey to rejuvenation camp

Trichy: Two temple elephants from Trichy were on Thursday sent for the state government-sponsored 48-day-long annual rejuvenation camp for temple and mutt elephants scheduled to be held at Thekkampatti near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district. Prior to the journey of the two elephants, pujas were performed near Amma Mandapam road on Thursday morning. Two temple elephants, namely Andal from Sri Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangam and Lakshmi from Arulmigu Thayumanaswami temple in Rockfort, were sent to the camp from the city by road on trucks. The camp which commences on December 14 would go on till January 30. To ensure their safe travel on trucks, a team of four veterinary doctors and veterinary assistants is also accompanying the elephants which are to be handed over to the camp authorities in good health.Organised by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR&CE) department, the rejuvenation camp for temple elephants for 2018-2019 is planned to be held on the banks of Bhavani river in Thekkampatti..
