Illegal liquor manufacturing unit busted, six arrested

Thanjavur: Police busted an illegal liquor manufacturing unit functioning from a rented house in Thanjavur and arrested six people on charges of running the unit. Police have registered a case. Investigation revealed that Seeralan, Suman and Packet Raja had conspired when they were lodged in Trichy prison, police said.Owner of the house, retired VAO Ganesan, stated that he had rented his house based on a house broker's introduction, believing that they were bachelors working in a private company. Police have also seized 5,000 litres of liquor and some other items worth several lakh rupees from the house located on the city outskirts.Based on a tip-off that some miscreants have been illegally manufacturing liquor in Thanjavur, a special police team headed by a DSP Vallam Jayachandran was formed and intensified their investigation in Cholan Nagar located on Trichy-Thanjavur road.On Thursday, they noticed a van coming out from a house and on suspicion barged into the house where they found six people illegally manufacturing liquor. They were identified as Rajkumar alias Packet Raja, 35, of North Ajaram in Thanjavur, R Raja, 18, of Kondirajapalayam, Rahul, 23, of Kothavalsavadi, Prakash, 20, of Vallam, Seeralan, 20, of Napalayam near Kulithalai in Karur district, and Suman, 20, of Manathattai in Karur district.Police recovered 5,000 bottles with liquor and 4,000 empty bottles, counterfeit labels, two cars and four two-wheelers worth several lakh rupees, police sources said..
