Trichy: The city police on Tuesday slapped Goondas Act against one of the four accused in the sexual assault case on a minor girl in Trichy.Trichy city commissioner of police, A Amalraj ordered the detention of R Bala alias Balakrishnan, 23, from Indra Nagar in Srirangam under Goondas Act as he was involved in several crimes including the penetrative sexual assault on the girls belonging to the scheduled caste community. Surya then placed a broken glass piece on the other girl’s neck and forced her to stay there.Bala and Mahesh verbally abused her by her caste name and pushed her down on the ground. When the matter was brought to Srirangam AWPS, they picked up all the four including the boy and booked them on charges of penetrative sexual assault more than twice under Protection of Children from Sexual offences Act (Pocso), wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation under IPC and committing crimes intentionally against dalit women under The Scheduled Castes and The Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. He was one of the four accused involved in the incident that took place on December 8, 2018.C Mahesh alias Maheswaran, 25 from Drainage Street in Srirangam, R Surya, 21 from Kollidakarai in Srirangam and a minor boy were the other accomplices in the crime.Police said that two minor girls were intercepted by the four-member gang near Yatri Niwas on the bank of Kollidam river in Srirangam on December 8.One of the accused, Surya grabbed the hand of one girl but she managed to release herself and fled the scene..
