Summary:

TRICHY: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) reviewing heritage tourism development project has sought a revised proposal from Trichy Corporation to give it the no-objection certificate (NOC) to go ahead with the plan. “We were told to provide lighting arrangements at a distance from the ASI monuments. Though the proposal received administrative sanction in July 2018 and technical nod in October 2018, an NOC from ASI is still awaited for starting works. The ASI sanction is mandatory for the plan proposed by Tiruchirappalli Smart City Limited (TSCL) aimed at developing tourism and amenities in historical monuments. With the public deprived of recreational amenities, the corporation had proposed ‘tourism development under Trichy smart city’ project covering five iconic spots. Revision will be carried out to obtain NOC from ASI in a month,” corporation commissioner N Ravichandran said. The ASI had acknowledged that the proposal would help people learn about the historical importance of the monuments..
