TRICHY: Paying heeds to the long-standing demands of Srirangam residents, the Trichy Corporation on Monday announced that the entry and parking fee collection from vehicles visiting Srirangam island will be discontinued from April 1, 2019. They were also opposing collection of fees from vehicles of their relatives from other places.“Since people have been demanding that we stop the parking fee collection, we have taken the decision forgoing our revenue,” said corporation commissioner N Ravichandran. The fee collection activity would remain active till March 31.The Trichy Corporation has been collecting parking fee cum entry fee from vehicles visiting Srirangam island (carrying registration plates of other districts and state) at three points -- Ammamandapan Road, Gandhi Road, and at Flood Bank Road.The residents were opposing fee collection by the civic body without providing them any basic amenities..
