34% increase in stipend for summer interns from IIM-T

Trichy: The recently conclude summer placements for post graduates 2018-20 batch of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Trichy saw a 34% increase in the average stipend offered. The average stipend recorded was Rs 83,321 and Rs 3,20,000 the highest, stated the placement cell of the institution.Summer placements would be immensely helpful for students who do not have work exposure prior to joining IIM. Besides, it would help students from non-management streams to have an exposure of the corporate life.Summer placements are paid internships for students at the end of first year, on many occasion it can become pre-placement offers at the end of their course. It depends on industry requirement and a candidate’s performance and interest.“They become wiser about organisational functioning and different roles, apart from applying basic concepts which they learn in their first year,” said an IIM faculty.A total of 168 students took part in the summer placements and were offered roles across domains like sales and marketing, finance, general management, strategy, consulting, operations and HR. 78 companies participated in the placement process, incuding Avalon Consulting, Deloitte, Godrej, Saint Gobain, BPCL, TAFE, Yes Bank, L&T, Dabur, RBS and GroupM.This year saw new recruiters like JP Morgan Chase, Shell, KPMG, Edelweiss, Reckitt Benckiser, Ultratech, Arcesium, HP and HDFC.“Our Summer Placement results shows our growing relationships with companies and their belief in IIM-Trichy which has seen an increase in not only highest and average stipend but also in the types of roles being offered,” said Ayon Chakraborty, placement chairperson.Bhimaraya Metri, director, IIM-Trichy, said that completion of summer placement for the class of 2020 with such impressive figures is a testimony of the academic rigour at the institution..
