Truck carrying sand seized in Trichy

TRICHY: The Trichy city police seized a truck loaded with sand suspected to have been collected from the farm lands near Srirangam on Monday night and a search was on for two people in this connection.Village administrative officer (VAO) Bharathidasan of Srirangam found a truck moving with sand near Amutham petrol bunk on Chennai by-pass road in the evening. Sub-inspector of police Azhagar said that the sand loaded was not river sand.Since the vehicle was coming from Mannachanallur area, they suspected that the sand might have been taken from a farmland in the area. Inquiries revealed the identity of the driver as Muthaiyan and the owner of the truck as Sekar. With the efforts of the team to catch the two going in vain, the VAO informed the Srirangam police who rushed to the spot. On suspicion, he and his team intercepted the truck and made inquiries with the driver and another man on board the vehicle which was loaded with three units of sand.Even as they were asking for permission to transport the sand, the duo jumped off the truck and ran away..
