Will boycott polls as compensation for land acquisition poor: Villagers

Nagapattinam: Citing poor compensation for the land acquired for four-way lane connecting Villupuram and Nagapattinam, residents from 20 villages in and around Sirkali in Nagapattinam district threatened to boycott the polls. The protestors demanded reasonable compensation for their land forgone for the project.The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had proposed to widen the 180-kilometre stretch at an estimation of Rs 6,000 crore. They have also warned to return their voter ID, ration card and aadhar cards too if officials would not heed their demand. As the work for acquiring required land has commenced, officials expected that the project would be completed in two years.As per the government norms, the NHAI authorities would give only government rate as compensation.
