1.527kg gold worth Rs 46L seized at Trichy airport

Trichy: The Air Intelligent Unit (AIU) of the customs has seized 1.527kg of gold valued at Rs 46 lakh from four passengers who arrived at the Trichy International Airport from Colombo by a Sri Lankan Airlines flight on Monday.According to customs officials, they grew suspicion over the activities of the four passengers - Alikkan, Nainarkajah from Thondi and Mohammed Yusuf from SS Pattinam and another unidentified person - and took them to the scanning room for inspection.During the check, officials found that the four had carried the yellow metals in their rectum in the form of paste after filling it in condoms.Alikkan had carried 425.9g of gold, Nainarkajah 285.3g, Mohammed Yusuf 379.5g and the unidentified passenger 436.4g, officials said.Customs officials recovered the entire gold and conducted inquiries with the carriers..
