Protests against ONGC continue to rage in Neduvasal, Kathiramangalam

Residents of the village had been indulging in different types of protest including holding rallies, cooking protest and demonstration. Trichy: Despite continuous efforts taken by ONGC's to garner support from the farming community for the execution of the ongoing oil and gas extraction process, there was no respite from the pace of the protests against ONGC in Kathiramangalam and Neduvasal. The protest has now entered its 100th day on Thursday. While the Kathiramangalam protest touched the 61st day, the Neduvaasal protest hit the century mark on Thursday.During the first phase, protesters from Neduvasal in Pudukottai district staged a 22-day long agitation against the proposed oil and gas extraction which commenced on February 15, 2017. Following the assurance given by Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan the villagers called off their stir.However, they again resumed the protest on April 12, after they received information that the hydrocarbon project would be executed by a private party in Neduvasal..
