Eight killed as roof crashes on resting TN transport workers

Summary:

Eyewitnesses said the ceiling came down with a defeaning crash on the sleeping drivers identified as Muniyappan, Chandrasekar, Prabakaran, Manivannan, Dhanapal, Anbarasan and Balu. Three other TNSTC employees identified as Venkatesan, Senthil and Premkumar were rescued by the Tharangambadi fire service station personnel and sent to the Karaikal GH for treatment. On September 7, the roof of a bus terminal near Somanur in rural Coimbatore collapsed leaving five dead and 10 injured. As the Porayar fire service station is less than 1 km from the TNSTC depot, a team was able to arrive in minutes. Collector C Suresh Kumar carried out a preliminary inquiry, while the Porayar police are investigating.It was the second tragedy involving the transport department in two months..
