Tinkering lab helps young minds learn latest tech

Vadodara: Hundreds of students from class six to 12 are learning latest technologies and getting a platform to try their hands-on it through Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) set up at city-based New Era Senior Secondary High School (NESS), Nizampura.ATL was inaugurated at NESS in October last year after the school was selected by government under the aegis of Atal Innovation Mission initiated by Niti Aayog.“The grant has helped to provide tools and equipment to students for practical exposure to STEAM (that stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and math). These includes various ‘do it yourself kits’, robotics kits, electronic equipments, sensors, micro-controller boards and 3D printers among others which are essential to develop 21st century technology skills,” principal Leena Nair said while addressing media persons on Monday.While over 500 students from within the school have got an opportunity to understand the working of equipments in the lab under guidance of six school teachers who have received special training to mentor the students apart from a mentor appointed by Niti Aayog, children of other government schools are also getting an opportunity to visit the lab.“ATL has helped students use their ideas to solve real life problems as they have made working models of home automation, line tracker robot, wrong side detection system, burglar alarm, smart blade for women protection to name a few,” she said.“Students have also won accolades at various inter-school, regional and national level competitions through their innovative projects and prototypes,” she added..
