Chaos mars NAMO tablets distribution programme in Vadodara

VADODARA: State education department's programme to distribute NAMO (New Avenues of Modern education) e-tablets witnessed complete chaos as some girls fell unconscious due to suffocation and many others complained of nausea and mobile thefts at Polo Ground - the venue of the distribution programme on Monday afternoon. "I had reached the venue at 9am and was supposed to get the tablet at around 2pm for which I was standing in the queue. But things turned unruly and I felt unconscious and started vomiting," said Ankita Rathwa, a student of first year bachelors of science who had come all the way from Ghoghambha town of Panchmahal district to attend the programme.She left the venue with her brother without collecting the tablet.Another girl student - Priya Kahar - lost her cell phone due to the chaos and was constantly crying at the venue.As thing got out of control, M S University vice-chancellor professor Parimal Vyas, announced that the university has suspended the distribution programme and will provide the tablets to its students from respective faculties. Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, who is camping in Vadodara for two days to attend the state level Independence Day celebrations, had launched the programme to distribute the e-tablets for students from various universities and educational institutes on Monday morning.Thousands of students had thronged the venue where individual universities had set up counters from where the students were supposed to collect the tablets.But the venue witnessed chaos when students who were standing in queue lost patience and started jumping the queue to reach the counters.Many students had also lost patience as the spot where they were standing had turned muddy due to rain water.Fibre-made counters were also damaged in the process while the distribution programme was halted and police called to control the situation..
