Multi-modal terminal in Kashi will be completed by November: IWAI

VARANASI: The Inland Waterways Authority of India ( IWAI ) has claimed that the Rs 169.59 crore multi-modal terminal (MMT) being built at Varanasi under Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) will be completed by November.In a press statement issued on Friday, IWAI said the construction of Rs 280. The testing of these models has been completed and the final report is awaited. 90 crore MMT at Sahibganj in Jharkhand will be completed by May 2019 and the one at Haldia, being constructed at a cost of Rs 517.36 crore, is scheduled to be completed by December 2019.Besides, work on the Rs 359.20 crore state-of-the-art navigational lock at Farakka is to be completed by June 2019. Besides commercial development, IWAI is also working to facilitate pilgrimage movement during the 2019 Kumbh Mela on the lines of facilitation it has been providing at Ganga Sagar Mela and Guru Purab at Patna Sahib.Recently, the IWAI started a month-long dialogue series with stakeholders and local communities along the NW-1 from Varanasi on July 16 to discuss about the benefits of the project.Deevakar Anand of IWAI said, " Similar programmes will be held at Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Sahibganj, Farakka, Swaroopganj, Behrampore, Haldia and other hinterlands of UPBihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal along NW-1.".
