Summary:

VARANASI: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) administration has debarred 11 students, who led the protests in September 2017 against the sexual molestation of a female colleague on campus, from taking up any course in future following their protest in May this year over the chief proctor's public statement that their earlier demonstration had been a sponsored event. An inquiry report by the BHU standing committee on July 24 this year served orders on these students while invoking provisions of ordinances in BHU's calendar and charging them with acts of vandalism, assault, dharna and pradarshan on May 2 this year at the office of chief proctor Royona Singh, the first woman at the varsity to take charge of this office. The students were objecting to the chief proctor's statement that the September 21-22, 2017 protests against molestation were "sponsored" and involved distribution of pizzas and colas to students..
