VIJAYAWADA: A man abandoned his bed-ridden elderly mother outside his house to fend for herself at Bethlehem Nagar in Gunadala area in the city. Locals noticed that the septuagenarian remained stuck to the bed under the scorching sun gasping for water. Even a foul smell emanated from the tent as the woman has been defecating in the bed itself.Cops were shocked to see the elderly woman in this condition and shifted her to Amma Vruddhula Ashram.Taking cognisance on the issue, city police commissioner D Gautam Sawang stated that necessary action will be taken against people who ill-treat their parents. Upon receiving a complaint from a local in the neighbourhood, police on Sunday arrested one Pothuraju Anjaiah and his wife Nirmala Rani and booked them under the Senior Citizen Act.Machavaram CI Sahera Begum and assistant commissioner of police N Satyanandam reached the spot and rescued the 70-year-old woman Pothuraju Prakasamma.According to the police sources, Anjaiah alias Yesu influenced his mother Prakasamma to transfer her properties in Godavaru village under Kankipadu mandal in Krishna district to his name and made a false promise that he would take care of her in his home.Horrors ensued for Prakasamma after she was shifted to his son’s place where he allegedly chained her to her bed.Anjaiah also took her pension money and later created a tent made of flex banners outside his house and dumped her there..
