Prakasam Barrage reduces outflows as catchment area gets scant rainfall

Vijayawada: Inflows at Prakasam Barrage reduced on Thursday with poor rainfall in the catchment area. Last dry lands in Pedana mandal received water from Banda canal this year and started sowing paddy, he said. Floods at Munneru, Katla, Vaira and other sub-rivers of Krishna noticed a sudden fall with poor rainfall and inflows at Prakasam barrage reduced to 11,606 cusecs on Thursday from 24,000 cusecs on Wednesday.Officials released 9,000 cusecs to the west and east main canals of the project and Guntur channel and opened seven gates of Prakasam Barrage by one foot and released 5,750 cusecs surplus water. The water resources department which is closely monitoring the flood situation in the barrage reduced the outflow to the Bay of Bengal by 5,750 cusecs.The district which received incessant rains till Wednesday noticed scattered rainfall on Thursday and Penuganchiprolu mandal received 14mm rainfall which is highest in the district followed by Veerulapadu mandal with 13.2 mm and Nandigama 11.2mm. District collector Lakshmikantham directed the officials of the R&B department to restore roads and take up repair works on the war footing.Collector Lakshmikantham said officials are closely monitoring the water supply to Krishna delta and sowing of paddy is going on fast pace across delta..
