Bharat Bandh off to a slow start in in Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA: The nationwide protest against rising fuel prices and fall of rupee value against the dollar got off to a slow start in the city on Monday. Congress party, which is spearheading the initiative, have announced that they will hold the Bandh till 2 pm. Left parties and Jana Sena would be conducting the procession in Besant Road where they are seeking the support of shop owners. While the Communist Party of India (CPI) began their protests at Pandit Nehru Bus Stand by obstructing buses, cops remained on their toes to stop them and allow the outbound buses.On the other hand, shops and establishments stood undeterred by the Bharat Bandh call and kept their businesses running. City police remained on high alert and deployed personnel across Bandar Road, Railway Station Road and PNBS areas to avoid any hassle towards normal life.TDP too participated in the protest and dragged a car with ropes to send out a message..
