Give ‘personhood status’ to elephants for protection of their rights, FIAPO members tell state government

Amaravati: In a bid to protect the rights of the animals, the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO) started lobbying with the state governments to grant personhood status to elephants. She said that bringing a legislation to grant personhood status to the elephants would help protecting their rights. Moreover, elephants have several special characteristics that make them autonomous and intelligent beings with extremely high cognitive, emotional and social skills.
