VIJAYAWADA: The quality of water in all major rivers in Andhra Pradesh fall under ‘C’ category, the least grade for drinking water sources. A river with ‘A’ water quality status is pure, and the water can be consumed with minimal treatment. None of the rivers in the state boasts of either ‘A’ or ‘B’ category quality status. The APPCB monitors water quality in rivers on monthly basis, collecting samples from at least one location from the river course.Rivers are assigned three different categories — A, B, and C — based on their water quality status. Water from rivers designated as ‘C’ category requires conventional treatment followed by disinfection to make it potable grade and safe for human use..
