VMC on spree to clear construction waste in city

Vijayawada: In a bid to clear tonnes of construction waste piled in the city, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation ( VMC ) intensified work at the construction and demolition waste recycling unit at Excel plant in Ajith Singh Nagar in the city.Construction activity has increased across the city recently, which has resulted in the generation of construction waste in huge quantities. Construction waste is processed through water-based crushing, which helps control air pollution,” said VMC Executive Engineer, ASN Prasad.He added that around 600 tonnes of construction waste are handled at present and the unit can handle upto 1,000 tonnes per day. “We can handle tonnes of construction waste every day without any air pollution. The agency is processing the waste and manufacturing sand and stone chips that can be reused in construction. They have said that VMC authorities collect up to Rs 500 per tonne, which would amount to spending lakhs on the disposal of waste..
