The new urban mandals will be Vijayawada Urban, West, Central and East mandals. The new urban revenue mandals will be formed and reorganised under Section 3 (2) of the Andhra Pradesh District ( Formation ) Act, 1974.The existing MRO office in Gandhi Nagar , which is presently serving a population of about 14 lakh, will act as the nodal office for one of the urban mandals. Officials say that with the sanctioning of new mandals and posts, the services will be delivered with more ease and within a short span of time. "We hope that creation of new posts and mandals will help lessen the delivery time of various services," officials said.The proposal to create new ubran mandals was hanging in balance for a long time now for want of the necessary financial support. Similarly, the Vijayawada North mandal will serve about 2.06 lakh people in an extent of 13 sq.km and the West mandal 3 lakh population in an area of 12 sq.km..
