GVMC extends biomining to 20 more acres at city’s Kapuluppada dump yard

GVMC officials expect the initiative to cost around Rs Rs 30 crore to the exchequer.Kapuluppada dump yard, located some 30 kilometres away from the city, has been the site of waste disposal since 2001. The local bodies shall investigate and analyse all old open dumpsites and existing operational dumpsites for their potential of bio-mining and bioremediation. Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation ( GVMC ), which started biomining of garbage on a five-acre land in its Kapuluppada dump yard, will now extend the process to another 20 acres.But unlike the five-acre bio-mining , which was undertaken by the Coromandel Fertilizers under its corporate social responsibility initiative, the GVMC will be using its own funds for the bioremediation of garbage on the 20 acres.
