Summary:

With Visakhapatnam becoming the medical hub in the state, the cancer care centre needs to be set up here.” Having a state-run well-equipped tertiary cancer centre in Visakhapatnam is the need of the hour.Dr N Sujatha, head of the department of oncology at KGH-AMC said, “It would be a big boon for patients if they get a government-run tertiary cancer care centre in Visakhapatnam since the existing ones are also paid private ones. An infuse of Rs 45 crore at this juncture will be helpful for high-end cancer equipment and for other civil works to complete the CSR block. Moreover, after state bifurcation, AP has no full-fledged government-run exclusive cancer care centre though a state cancer hospital (a Rs 120 crore centre-funded project) has been proposed at Kurnool. From KGH-AMC to the DME to the principal secretary – all have been trying for the tertiary centre and we have sent a senior doctor to Delhi to negotiate to bring the sanctioned project to Vizag , where already the civil works of the oncology block is ongoing. The civil works for the CSR Oncology block is already going on.From the Rs 45 crore central funds, high-end cancer equipment worth Rs 21 crore can be purchased and the block can also be completed as scheduled and planned.”Principal of AMC Dr P V Sudhakar said, “Already proposals have been sent to the Centre in person..
