Cyclone Phethai crosses AP coast close to Yanam 40km south of Kakinada IMD

VISAKHAPATNAM: The cyclone Phethai crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast close to Yanam, 40km south of Kakinada in East Godavari district between 1.30pm and 2.30pm, said Stella, director/Scientist-E, India Meteorological Department (IMD).In the latest weather bulletin issued, Stella told TOI that the system would move in the north-northeastwards and weaken rapidly by Monday night.The cyclone maintained a wind speed of 70-100kmph during the landfall, said Stella, who is from Chennai IMD Centre, but has been posted at Vijayawada centre in the state to track the cyclone.Heavy to extremely heavy rains associated with winds prevailed along the coast during the landfall.Injaram in East Godavari district received 119.25mm of rainfall while Uppalaguptam received 117.25m of rainfall..
