Tenant farmers availing interest-free loans: Minister

Vijayawada: The government is offering interest-free loans to tenant farmers on par with farmers, said minister for agriculture Somireddi Chandramohan Reddy.In reply to a question in the Legislative Council on Thursday, the minister said there are 15.36 lakh farmers cultivating lands on ‘oral lease basis’ and they are considered tenant farmers despite not having any written lease agreements.The government is issuing Loan Eligibility Cards (LECs) to help these farmers avail bank loan, the minister said.During 2018-19, the government had set a target of issuing LECs to 5,68,465 farmers. However, the prices and marketing of jaggery was monitored by the agriculture market committee in Anakapalli, the minister said. He said farmers export jaggery to Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Bihar and to other markets in the country..
