APTF candidate wins MLC election for north Andhra teachersrsquo seat

Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation ( APTF ) candidate, Pakalapati Raghuvarma , won the north Andhra teachers’ MLC seat with the counting of the second preferential vote held on Tuesday. Since no candidate had got quota votes, counting took place for second preferential votes.The counting started at 8 am and continued for 11 hours as the polling was conducted by ballot system. Srinivasulu Naidu stood second with a total of 6,044 votes. He defeated the sitting MLC, Gade Srinivasulu Naidu of the Progressive Recognised Teachers Union ( PRTU ).The APTF leader won the elections with the required quota of 8,372 votes against Naidu in the sixth round of counting of second preferential votes. It may be recalled that 88.72% of voters exercised their franchise (17,293 out of 19,598 voters).After the completion of 14 rounds in the first preferential vote counting, Raghuvarma got 7,834 votes, while two-time MLC Srinivasulu Naidu got 5,632 votes..
